Ratna Nidhi in association with the Rotary Club of Bombay Worli has launched Project Dependence to Independence with a Mission to make Mumbai Disability Free.
2.2% of India’s population suffers from Disability. The problem is particularly advanced in India where a physical handicap can often bring fear, prejudice and worst of all, significantly reduced opportunities in education and the workforce because of the perception that such people are less efficient.
As per the Census of India 4,94,100 people suffer from Disability in the Mumbai and Thane belt. 52,969 individuals suffer from Movement Disability and 99,964 suffer from Hearing Disability.
Project Dependence to Independence is a Handicapped Trust in India seeking to combat physical disability in Mumbai. The project seeks to uplift people with physical disability by providing them with access to artificial mobility equipment’s.
Access to these mobility equipment’s would further contribute to the social and economic empowerment of these individuals.
The inaugural event of the project was hosted at the Mayor’s Bungalow at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on 14th August, 2017. The event was attended by the following dignitaries:
Hon. Shri Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, Mayor of Mumbai (Chief Guest)
69 Mobility aids were donated to 53 patients at the Mayor’s bungalow.
