News & UpdatesMY EXPERIENCE WITH RNCT
I volunteered with RNCT as a Computer teacher. The 3 months which I spent with RNCT can be described as the lasting experience that I managed to collect. I can happily say those few months were well spent and the teachers were very friendly and helpful.
The first two months I taught the school children basic computers like Word, Excel, Paint etc. They were very attentive and was quite easy task to teach them with the help of the RNCT teachers. We tried to make the computer class quite fascinating for the children. We played simple games like choose a chit from a bowl, blackboard games to make the computer lessons interesting and fun. At the end of the class, we used to give chocolates to whoever performed well. Children were very smart and keen to learn despite that they were economicallydisadvantaged. I loved interacting with them. The best part about the whole experience was the love and respect that they would express. They would always be so excited to see me coming.
Last one month I spent teaching teenaged girls and boys who wanted to learn computers. They came from faraway places as they could not afford expensive computer classes in their locality. One girl named Meenakshi she used to travel from Chinchpokoli every day in her free time to get her basics right. She got immense help from Kanchan (teacher) and me. I learned that some girls who did the computer course from RNCT even got jobs. They shared healthy relationship with the teachers even after completion of the course.
The best thing about RNCT is that they are offering computer classes free of cost which is so important in to our daily life. The teachers gave special attention to each and every child in the class and process of teaching was slow so the children could get their concepts right.
The class can be made more engaging through story/picture books related to computers, 10 minutes game break (which we did when I was teaching), or maybe poetry recitals. It would refreshed the children after a long tired day.
I learned that volunteering is a two-way street. You will be surprised by how much you will get back- whether it’s a new outlook or a warm smile – when you give your time to each other. So volunteer. It is truly a beauty.

New Life, New Life...You came to give us new life...
It was that fateful day of 26/11 where the whole nation was in shock because some terrorists had come to destroy the peace, happiness and beauty of the wonderful city Mumbai. The operation run span went on for more than 3 days and came to deadline after proper outlining and cataloguing from the forces.
Many lost their lives. Many were injured. Manysurvived. Many were LUCKY to be survived...
Faustine Basil Martis, 49, a dynamic and effective person working for the Taj Mahal, Mumbai at Sea lounge for the past 27 years, an amiable, gallant, and efficacious man happened to be my impressive Pa. He witnessed this day of terror and as duty-bound, imbibed by values to the service and safety of the fellow customers, he stepped forward for safety of his guests sacrificing his life because he was always "To Live and Die for Taj, for PEOPLE of Taj"
Priya Florence Martis, 24, a BSc graduate specialized in computers was working for Taj Data Centre, a department which controlled the entire of IT Sector for the Taj, a floor up where her father catered to many patrons. Florence, happened to be my loving, audacious sister.
The scenario of the duo to work together under one roof, under one brand is what my dad always wished. So this family of 4 was a joyous, fun-loving and a happy family...
It so happened that Priya was alone in the Data Centre that very day and she was frozen by the things happening around. Her Brave Father who at that point was guarded safe outside the hotel premises could see how this very beautiful and ancient Palace was lit on fire and the pace at which operations were going on. BUT, as the words go. “How can a Father wait/leave a Daughter formed out of his own blood in pitfall?” He was agile and impetuous to go inside again for her rescue. Expeditious was he to get her safe BUT breathed his last to the bulletsthat hit him on his way to rescue his daughter.
This News got the family desecrated to pieces in seconds on hearing that this Proud Father, a man who led the family in all times ever cease to exist. We lost our HERO, We lost our MAN.
Nearly after 36hours of pursuit, in a state of no food, water and hiding under a couch with legs folded, Florence was rescued.
A family of 3now. Mother40, Priya and FloydMartis (myself)18.A juvenile, where adulthood was on myway, was preparing for my upcoming Sscexams when these series of events happened.
I was small, innocent, unknown of the factsand the time had not come for me to take responsibility and run the family .Though a minor had sadness had vague thoughts.A kid broken, shattered to emotions on the loss of his HERO.BUT, I cannot cry, cannot sit watching the other two hit, and cannot leave them stranded. It was not the end. Then I decided, the time had come. It was an early start to responsibility, a pillar to build the foundation. Faith and trust towards almighty got me courage, strength to face the world, bittercry, worries and things. With great hardship I could get my family out of the mental trauma…
And days passed, months elapsed .With things difficult, to get easy and fall on track. Like a Father who wants his son to be that “GreatPerson”. So did my father wanted me to do BEComputers. Thepath was tough. From SSC to BE was a path of hard work, determination added with responsibility.
Financially, we fell into the middle tier. This MAN made us pass our days with happiness and wants sufficient enough to keep us happy. For a major decision, we had to give a thought. Now to pursue BE in computers was again a thought to be dealt with. All 3 disoriented mentally, baffled. It’s very well said "There are Heavenly angels who hear your plea and are at your rescue at the right moment".
There came a day when it got a letter bearing headline saying, “RatnaNidhiTrust”. Clueless, what was this RNT.But "This letter "could be termed as NewLife, anew beginning to all of us. It brought smiles on all our faces, an everlasting smile by the activitiesRatna Nidhi does to the needy and heart broken families in all sectors. The prerequisite help was provided to the earliest without much ado. That very path was lit with a guide to dispel darkness, worries.
AnNGO located all over, whoaids students of deprived families to ripen educationally and make success in their future endeavors .Their importance towards the aspect of education (also others) is of great consideration in my case. Because if u study, youwork, and if you work your all set. A great thought imbibed in the organization for the good of all. Financially and mentally Ratna Nidhi has helped us in many ways. From time to time scheduling of meet-ups to granting of scholarships, it has always said aGO AHEAD AND EXPLOREattitude. Like a lamp that guides a pathway TheOrganizationHead has been like a mother, a woman of care, smile and with futuristic thought.I had many monologue on my visit to the office and every one of them had a talk involving futuristic part related to my carrier. How can I forget the Staff, who always made me smile and cliqued my pictures with me holding the slate.Kind, supportive, humble, they have been the moving force who played a key role coordinating various things and providing the necessary aid on time.
Finally I knew many had hopes on me and Ratna Nidhi ensured that I workhard for it.With support I know I could do wonders. I Worked hard, Scored distinction for my BE curriculum at XIE (Xavier institute of Engineering, Mumbai) andfinally, undergoing training as System Engineer at INFOSYS, Mysuru, 2016.As I ponder over the things and think of all the years that passed from 2008 onwards where RatnaNidhi has made all efforts for me to be an engineer was like my father’s WishGrantedTrue. My Father must be smiling from above too see his son become an engineer. Therefore I find myself to be Lucky to be backed by this trustin spite of the major loss.
What Next...
Words are less to express my fullness, honor and overwhelmnessto RatnaNidhi and all the supporters and donors who help children like me to be professionaladults. Their motive is to tell them that you are not alone, saddened but to be LUCKYto go ahead and explore because we help you to reach the destination how far it may be. Let the path be crooked, let you be down with money crisis, WE ARE FOR YOU, BY YOU.
And time ahead as I wish to do my masters, like I wished when I was 18 I wish again that Ratna Nidhi will be around me like that very angel to support and patronageto explore new heights and talents. If today I have to raise a toast to my Success, it would be to Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, an organization that grants you a NEW LIFE.
