Camp For The Disabled – 16th March 2014

Project Organised by Rotary Club of Mulund and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust

On the 16th of March 2014 a  Camp For the Disabled was organisedat P.K Pawani Lions Sports Pavillion, Mulund, where over 300 physically disabled were expected to come to the camp to benefit from Jaipur foots, calipers, wheelchairs, crutches and hearing aids, to ensure a better living of impaired people and to help them carry on their daily activities.

The camp was graced by the presence of chief guest, PDG Madhukar Deodar and MLA Shri Tara Singhji.

For amputees the Jaipur foot is a boon and has been found to be the most preferred prosthetic as it is light in weight, fast & easy to fabricate and cost effective.

Other than the jaipur foot, Polio affected children were given Calipers as per their measurements to make them mobile and able to carry on with their day to day lives independently. Wheelchairs were mainly  granted for the old and immobile who are unable to move on their own because of old age, paralysis or other diseases like cerebral palsy. For non critical disability cases, Crutches were given to the physically disabled children and the elderly help them to be mobile.

The Hearing impaired person were given appropriate hearing aids. This simple device brings about a huge change in their lives.

Rotary members of Mulund interacted with beneficiaris, understood how jaipur foot is made and used by physically challenged people.

Following is a statistics about the number of beneficials that were handed either mobility, orthopedical products or hearing aids.

One of our beneficiary Mrs. Nilima lost both her legs in train accident in 1971. She had came to our camp for her Jaipur Foot replacement. This is what she has to say, “I don’t feel that I am handicapped & I don’t have legs. I am very happy that I can now do things on my own, go to the market etc. by my own.”

Other beneficiary Mrs. Padma lost her leg to gangrene 18 months back. She got too upset and disturbed because of this. She came to our camp with her husband. She was very happy to receive Jaipur foot. This is what her husband shares with us, “She was too depressed because of amputation. After 18 months, this is first time that she is walking on her own without any support. We are very happy. Now she will walk just like before.”

These success stories are added to Ratna  Nidhi’s archive of helping people and ensuring their well-being, however, that’s not just it. Following are other pictures of some of the beneficiaries that their lives will be completely changed. Thanks to our donors, hoping that one day our work will expand all over India to vanish the effects of  disability.
